The Capital Campaign for the Minnesota Valley Humane Society
The love we share with our pets is deep and powerful. They become our constant companions, our confidants and often our healers. They ask so little of us. Yet, in a compassionate community it is our wish and our responsibility to care for and protect them. This is our promise.
Since 1981, the Minnesota Valley Humane Society (MVHS) has been a leader in caring for homeless animals, finding them new homes and championing the cause of kindness to animals. In 25 years, much has changed for MVHS – we have grown and expanded our programs. But our current building is over 40 years old, deteriorating rapidly, over crowded and energy inefficient. The size (about 10,000 sq. ft.) and layout are inadequate to house and support the growing number of surrendered and abandoned animals. And…recent professional assessment indicated that remodeling or adding-on to the building is not feasible due to inherent structural and mechanical faults.
That is why MVHS urgently needs your help!
Divine intervention, fate, or happenstance; whatever the reason the results share the same happy ending…
First, let me bring you up to date. Recently an offer was made to purchase the building which Minnesota Valley Humane Society currently calls home. Now…we have an opportunity to look at alternative sites in the growing South Metro area and find an existing location to purchase. This will allow us to upgrade to an animal healthy environment, expand our services and help even more animals.
In light of a bad economy, this is a financially prudent undertaking that will allow us to dramatically reduce our early campaign goal of $7 million. The good news is that we will now be able to continue our dream of helping animals that we serve at a much lower price than building a new facility.
- In 2008 MVHS received 3,694 surrendered and abandoned animals and facilitated over 2,300 adoptions.
- 100% of our healthy, adoptable animals find homes.
- MVHS does not euthanize for space.
MVHS serves the public and animals across a wide geographical area. From its location in the growing south metro, it uniquely serves the communities of Apple Valley, Bloomington, Burnsville, Eagan, Farmington, Lakeville, Prior Lake, Richfield, Rosemount, Savage, Shakopee and areas in between from Hastings to Northfield:
- Public outreach and education
- Therapeutic pet visits to the elderly
- Animal surrender and adoption
- Due to its reputation, it is a sought after resource across the entire Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area.
Please consider taking just 5 seconds to make a donation that will help us keep providing a safe haven for our animal friends who will otherwise be homeless.
